Thuringia
Thuringia is located in the middle of the Federal Republic of Germany and is one of the smaller states with a population of around 2.1 million and an area of around 16,000 square kilometres. It borders Bavaria in the south, Hesse in the west, Saxony-Anhalt in the north and Saxony in the east. Thuringia's capital is Erfurt, which is also the largest city.
